Why UV Sunglasses are Worth Your Money

Do you wear sunglasses throughout the year to protect your eyes? Depending on the sunglasses you choose, you might not be getting the protection you expect.

While sunglasses look great and are a stylish accessory, they also serve an essential role. High-quality sunglasses protect your eyes from several potentially harmful issues. Although it may be tempting to pick up any pair of sunglasses from the drug store or gas station, that may not be the best idea.

High-quality sunglasses are an essential purchase and seriously worth your money. Here are several reasons why purchasing a quality pair of UV sunglasses is a good idea.

Protection Against UV Rays

UV sunglasses protect against ultraviolet (UV) rays. Why are glasses with UV protection important?” The reason is that UV light can seriously damage your eyes. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause serious eye problems, such as macular degeneration, cataracts, vision loss, and more.

There are three forms of UV radiation: UVA, UVB, and UVC. UVA is the lowest in energy and the light that causes our skin to tan.

UVB is mostly absorbed by the ozone layer, but the amount that comes through is harmful. UVB is responsible for most sunburns and skin cancers and can also hurt your eyes. While UVC is more dangerous, it is blocked almost entirely by the ozone layer and poses little risk.

Sunglasses that provide both UVA and UVB protection keep harmful UV rays out of your eyes.

Pupil Protection

Just because sunglass lenses are dark, it doesn’t mean they offer UV protection. In fact, dark glasses that don’t protect against UV rays can actually be more damaging to your eyes than not wearing sunglasses at all.

That’s because dark lenses cause your pupils to dilate. This means your pupils will become larger to let more light in. If your sunglasses don’t offer UV protection, your dilated pupils will actually take in more harmful UV rays.

Protects Your Eyes From All Sides

It’s important to choose sunglasses that provide protection on all sides so that UV light doesn’t have a chance to reach your eyes. Glasses that have a wraparound design or that are made to fit closely to your face are best at keeping the sun out of your eyes. This means you won’t need to turn your head or squint your eyes to be able to see clearly in bright sunlight.

Better Vision During the Day

When you’re wearing UV sunglasses, you’re able to see more clearly. You won’t have to resort to squinting or shading your eyes with your hands. This means you’ll be able to see better without additional effort.

When your eyes are protected and your vision unobstructed, it’s easier to complete day-to-day tasks. Plus, it makes it safer to drive or operate other machinery or tools. This not only improves your daily life but also protects you from accidents or incidents.

Protection Against Dust and Dirt

In addition to keeping light and UV rays out of your eyes, sunglasses also help protect against dust and dirt. When you’re out and about, debris particles can fly into your eyes, often without notice. Not only can this be annoying, but it can also cause damage to your eyes.

Your Eyes Deserve Proper Protection

By wearing high-quality, well-fitting sunglasses, you can protect your eyes from several types of damage. Ensuring your sunglasses provide proper protection is an investment in your eye health.
